I started playing padel at at a young age by translating my high performance tennis training to become a self-taught padel player. I then started to take Padel more seriously, competing in multiple tournaments across Spain.

At just 16 years old, I started to coach padel. This coaching then progressed to me being able to coach at one of the best padel academies in Sevilla, where I also trained alongside some WPT players.

JAVI
Javi started playing padel more than 22 years ago and has been coaching for 17 years, when padel was starting to grow in Spain.
Javi competed professionally as a junior reaching the Spanish Championship in 2005, a semi-finalist in the Junior World Cup, and also competed in the European Championships (over 18s), representing Spain and reaching the top 8 in 2007.
Since coming to the UK, Javi competed in the British Tour, reaching the UK #1 from 2017 to 2019.

I was born in Leeds but moved abroad at seven years old and grew up in Portugal. I have always been a sports fanatic and spent my childhood playing football, rugby, tennis and just about every sport in between. At thirteen I took a special interest in tennis, training almost every day and competing in regional and national competitions. While training I took my coaching qualifications and trained the competitive juniors at my local club.
At 17 the time came where I had to accept that I wasn’t going to be a pro athlete but wanted to remain as close as possible to the sports industry. I went on to complete a (BA) in Sports Business and Sports Law followed a MSc in Sports Business.
Once I finished my degree’s I headed home to Portugal, and nobody wanted to play tennis with me! My mates had discovered Padel, invited me to play and I instantly fell in love! Naturally, not wanting to go straight into an office job I travelled to Marbella to complete a Padel Coaching qualification. Since then, I have spent the last year living and coaching in before deciding to move back to my roots, leading me to Surge Padel!
